It's Just A Battery
It works as any aftermarket battery with the same specs will work. Only difference is, you pay 5 to 6 times more for this one. The "reporting" feature is only there to force you to buy this battery, over the 3rd party suppliers that do not have that reporting chip. My Canon 40D shows the battery life, and it works with all 3rd party supplied batteries as well. Shame on Canon for ripping off loyal customers. They are starting to act like Apple.

Great Battery
The following review is for the Canon LP-E6 BATTERY, not the price:
Make no mistake, this is the best battery on the market for your Canon camera (FYI: I own a Canon 7D). Off-brand batteries are a lot cheaper, but they:
1) don't last as long (I can shoot photos ALL DAY LONG with this battery without a recharge- including entire weddings)
2) are poorer quality and have been known to leak
3) don't always fit properly (some off-brand batteries do not fit well in the camera and have to be "jammed" in to make contact
4) don't allow you to see the remaining charge on the LCD display.
On top of that, Amazon has about the cheapest price on the internet (current price: .00). You may find cheaper ones out there, but be careful to buy from REPUTABLE companies or 1) you may not get what you asked for OR 2) you may get an old battery that's been sitting around in a clearance warehouse for a few months or even years!
Original Canon Battery - Work as expected
This this original Canon battery working on my Canon 7D with no issue. The original Canon battery will display the battery level on the DSLR display panel while other non-Canon battery will not do.
Better than the knock offs
This battery pack works great and holds a charge for a long time. I like canon battery packs better than the "knock offs" because I'm able to check the "condition" of the battery in the camera, when the cheaper battery packs don't. This feature alone, besides the good battery life make this choice a "no brainer".
Happy to have an extra.
I've found that non-Canon battery packs don't provide as much power as this one. I'm very happy to have an extra.
