We bought this camera for my son for his 10th birthday. For the price, my expectations were quite low, but I figured if he was able to get some play time out of it and learn a few things about cameras it would be worth it. I’ve been impressed. As long as you don’t judge it outside of it’s class, it’s a surprisingly good camera. The first thing I noticed is how good the image looks, a combination of decent sensor and good display. When my brother-in-law saw the camera, he seriously considered it as a gift for his wife.
The biggest down-side of this camera by far is the lack of any optical zoom. If you can live with that limitation, I’d say the image quality is definitely good enough even for capturing important memories and other things you might want a camcorder for. The camera is surprisingly lightweight and comfortable to hold, but with no image stabilization and the light weight, video can be a bit shaky if you aren’t careful.
This camera has three modes: still image, video, and audio. The audo recording was a pleasant surprise because my son loves to record audio such as game music from the XBox, or himself playing the piano.
Kudos Mustek for a good job with an underserved niche.
